Since one of my flatmates and I woke up pretty early this morning (maybe I'm not over the jet lag entirely yet), we decided to walk abound our neighborhood. We're close to Covent Garden, so we decided to meander through there to the Thames. The central city is so rich visually that it's easy to get distracted by just how much design has gone to into things pretty much anywhere you look.
There are plenty of traditional pubs with richly decorated gold lettered signs, and nice little architectural features
You also get cute funky little touches on shops, like this painted rocket.
This office building had a fantastic wooden sculpture in it.
One advantage of being up early is that you get to see the city getting ready for the day. In the market itself, a tempting looking farmer's market was being set up.
We also caught workers heading in the stage door at the Savoy. Theaters are simply never as glamorous from the back.
Yes, there are still the "Doctor Who" phone booths everywhere, and no, I probably shouldn't be so entertained every time I see one.
Despite all these distractions, we did make it to the Thames, where we were rewarded with the impressive obelisk and Sphinx scuptures.
